Argon, a noble gas, reacts with essentially nothing to form essentially no interesting compounds. It is, however, the third largest component of the air we breathe — at 0.934%. This, of course, means that it’s colorless and odorless — otherwise everything we saw would be tinged and stink. Of course, we would have evolved to see in ultraviolet and smell with our ears to compensate…… It is, BTW, over 20 times more prevalent in the atmosphere than the Global Warmist’s bugaboo, CO2.
Wolfie forgot to include the isotope information, so I looked it up. There are three natural isotopes that are stable — 36, 38, and 40. Argon39 is natural and decays through beta emission. 41 and 42 are synthetic and also beta, while 37 is synthetic and decays in some weird epsilon fashion to chlorine.
Oddly enough, most of the argon found on earth is the result of radioactive decay (from potassium) [40] rather than accumulation of the more common form in the rest of the the universe [36]. This lead to some consternation when constructing the periodic table because the average atomic weight would put it out of sequence. The periodic table, however, is arranged by atomic number and not atomic weight.
Under extreme conditions, argon can form some compounds with very reactive substances. Argon fluorohydride (HArF [sounds like coughing-up a hairball]) is stable up to about 17 degrees Kelvin. That’s about -429 degrees Fahrenheit if you’re thinking of resetting your thermostat and brewing up a batch.
